Jira integration

Jira integration

Connect Jira to initdesk to create, link, and track Jira issues directly from support tickets.

Connect Jira to initdesk when your product or engineering team tracks work in Jira and support needs to keep customer conversations linked to that work.

With Jira connected, associates can create a Jira issue from a ticket, link a ticket to an existing issue, and keep the Jira issue status visible beside the customer conversation.

What the Jira integration does

With Jira connected, your team can:

  • Create Jira issues directly from an initdesk ticket
  • Link support tickets to existing Jira issues
  • See the linked Jira issue key, title, URL, and current status in the ticket
  • Open the Jira issue from initdesk
  • Track Jira status changes without manually relinking the issue
  • Keep support and product context connected while the customer conversation stays in initdesk

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • Admin access to your initdesk organization
  • Access to the Jira site and project you want to use
  • Permission to authorize or configure Jira integrations
  • A Jira project where issues from support should be created

Connect Jira

  1. In initdesk, go to Settings > Plugins.
  2. Open Jira.
  3. Click Connect Jira.
  4. Follow the authorization flow.
  5. After authorization, return to initdesk and confirm the Jira plugin shows as connected.

Once Jira is connected, associates can create and link Jira issues from ticket sidebars.

Create a Jira issue from a ticket

  1. Open a support ticket.
  2. Find the Jira section in the ticket sidebar.
  3. Click to create or attach an issue.
  4. Choose New issue.
  5. Review the issue details, including project, title, description, and status fields.
  6. Create the issue.

The Jira issue is created and linked to the initdesk ticket.

Link an existing Jira issue

Use this when a bug, product request, or engineering task already exists in Jira.

  1. Open a support ticket.
  2. In the Jira section, choose to attach an issue.
  3. Search for the existing Jira issue.
  4. Select the issue and link it to the ticket.

The linked issue appears in the ticket sidebar so your team can open it in Jira and see its current status from initdesk.

Status sync

initdesk keeps the linked Jira issue status visible on the ticket. When the Jira issue moves through your Jira workflow, support can see the latest status without creating a duplicate issue or asking product for a manual update.

This helps support know whether a customer issue is still being investigated, already planned, in progress, or done, while keeping the customer reply workflow inside initdesk.

When to use Jira from a support ticket

Use Jira when a ticket needs product or engineering follow-up, such as:

  • A reproducible bug
  • A feature request from a customer
  • A product question that requires engineering confirmation
  • A customer-impacting incident or regression
  • A request that should stay visible in your product backlog

Troubleshooting

The Jira section does not appear in tickets

Confirm that Jira is connected in Settings > Plugins > Jira. If the plugin was disconnected, reconnect it before linking issues.

I cannot find the Jira issue I want to link

Search by issue key or title. Also confirm that the connected Jira account has access to the project where the issue lives.

Jira status is not updating in initdesk

Check that the Jira plugin is still connected and that the linked issue exists in a project your connected account can access.

I cannot connect Jira

Ask a Jira admin to confirm that your account can authorize apps or configure integrations for the Jira site.
